Microsoft’s latest Surface devices are significantly more repair-friendly compared to earlier versions, yet occasionally, a professional touch is still required for fixing your PC. Enter the partnership between Microsoft and uBreakiFix by Asurion, which offers Surface owners another avenue for device repairs.

Now, if you own a Surface, you can head over to any uBreakiFix location where trained technicians will use genuine Microsoft parts and tools to get your device back in shape. Whether your device is covered by warranty or not, they can handle it—although out-of-warranty fixes are subject to parts being available.

Dave Barbuto, the CEO of uBreakiFix by Asurion, encapsulates the partnership perfectly, stating, “By bringing in-warranty services closer to customers, we offer them unparalleled convenience. They can tackle their tech issues without the fear of voiding warranties.” He adds, “Surface owners visiting our stores can have confidence knowing their devices are in capable hands, with authentic parts used to uphold manufacturing standards. This is a great initiative to provide more choices to customers who are facing issues with their gadgets, giving them reliable repair options.”

This collaboration is a win-win; it not only provides more repair opportunities but also aligns with sustainability by reducing electronic waste. Extending the life of PCs means consumers won’t need to discard their devices as frequently, aiding environmental efforts.

### Who is uBreakiFix?

The name uBreakiFix might ring a bell. Earlier this year, they became recognized as the first Xbox Authorized Service Provider, thanks to a partnership with Microsoft.

With this new development in their collaboration, anyone with a compatible Surface or Xbox device can now visit a uBreakiFix store across the U.S. for repairs. The team at uBreakiFix is well-equipped, thanks to Microsoft-certified training and the use of original parts and tools.

For Surface devices that are covered by a warranty, uBreakiFix is fully equipped to handle repairs. They can also look after devices without a warranty, provided the necessary components are on hand. They handle a variety of issues, from cracked screens and broken keyboards to batteries and storage drives that have stopped functioning effectively.

Most Surface repairs are efficiently wrapped up in just a few days. Asurion mentions that the majority of Americans live within a 10-mile radius of a uBreakiFix by Asurion store, making access convenient.

Historically, Surface devices weren’t known for being repair-friendly. The Surface Pro 7, for example, scored a dismal 1 out of 10 from iFixit, indicating just how difficult they were to repair. The first Surface Laptop wasn’t much better, being described as a “glue-filled monster.”

Fast forward to the release of the Surface Pro 9, which was touted as the “most repairable” of its kind at the time. Now, with the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7, Microsoft has evidently taken a cue from the criticism and focused on making these devices more accessible for repairs.

Both new models garnered an initial score of 8 out of 10 from iFixit (keeping in mind the different scales for tablets and laptops). iFixit applauded the new designs, highlighting features like easily removable batteries, upgradeable storage, and clear disassembly instructions.

Microsoft’s shift towards prioritizing repairability is a promising change from their past approach, setting them apart from some other PC manufacturers.
