The world of VR gaming is about to get a little more exciting as “Cards & Tankards,” a popular free-to-play social VR card game, is gearing up for a brand-new expansion this month.
Created by Divergent Realities, this game has created a niche for itself on both flatscreen devices and VR headsets. The development team just dropped the news that the fresh expansion, dubbed ‘Ashes of Ur-Enku,’ will soon bring a host of interesting updates. Expect 50 new cards, some eye-catching diamond animated variants, an array of new cosmetics to personalize your experience, a revamped season pass, various balancing tweaks, and a reset of the current ranks.
The expansion takes players into the wild territories of Ur-Enku, where the narrative centers around the Plundering Guild’s bold venture into fire-hunting. This controversial technique leads them to unearth ancient Dwarven archives buried under layers of untamed vegetation. These records delve into the mysteries of Aether, an ancient and potent force, but the journey is perilous—only one explorer makes it back, according to the developers.
Since it first hit the gaming scene nearly two years ago, “Cards & Tankards” has continually evolved with a multitude of post-launch updates. The latest overhaul came in December with Version 2.4, which focused on a variety of technical fixes. Prior to that, Version 2.3 introduced balance updates affecting more than half of the cards in the game. Not to mention, last March brought us the ‘Crusade of Sun & Stone’ expansion, alongside the introduction of a competitive ‘Ranked Mode’ in 2023.
For those eager to dive in, “Cards & Tankards” is accessible now on the Meta Quest platform, Steam, and Google Play. Mark your calendars, as the Ashes of Ur-Enku expansion is set to launch on March 27.
