So get this, there was a big Star Wars thing that just happened over in Japan. Yep, a panel revealed — drumroll, please — Star Wars Zero Company. Imagine folks calling it the “XCOM Star Wars game.” I mean, it makes sense, right? The brains behind it is Greg Foertsch. You know, the guy who used to be a big deal over at Firaxis, working on those turn-based XCOM games everybody’s always nerding out about.
Straight from the mouth of Greg himself – well, actually, it was in a press release or something shared with Polygon – he’s talking vision and pillars. It’s like, how does Star Wars meet cool tactical gameplay? He’s all about merging that rich galaxy far, far away with decision-making stuff that’ll get your brain cogs whirring. Clone Wars era, player choices affecting outcomes, and—get this—a cinematic presentation. Sounds like a buffet of things fans love, but who am I to say?
And then there’s Hawks. No, not the bird. A person. Apparently, our main character is this ex-Republic officer. Now leading a group of, let’s say, misfit mercenaries. Zero Company – that’s their gig now. They’ve got to put aside their differences – of course, they have differences. Who doesn’t? They’re facing some big bad threat yada yada… If they don’t squish it, it’ll gobble up the galaxy. Typical Tuesday stuff.
It’s kind of nostalgic hearing about the game’s setup. It’s like visiting an old friend, you know? You’ll bounce around the galaxy, doing tactical ops, snooping about and setting up shop. Oh, and schmooze with intel gatherers, staying a step ahead of the baddies – typical espionage 101. Tailor your squad of quirky operators, meet new figures penned just for Zero Company. That last part is kinda exciting if you ask me.
Speaking of new characters, honestly, I wouldn’t mind missing out on the usual Star Wars suspects. Instead, let’s roll the dice with original narratives – fresh faces, new tales. Think about Andor and how it gave us a peek into something different amidst the familiar Star Wars noise. Maybe Zero Company will hit that same sweet spot? Here’s hoping, anyway.
Bad news, though—well, not actually bad, but meh news. We’ve got a bit of a wait. No release date in sight yet, maybe 2026? Bit Reactor’s working on it with Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games. Expect to see it on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X when it finally lands. So there’s that.
