So, they pushed Borderlands 4 up. Yeah, you heard that right—brought it forward. I mean, for video games, isn’t that like spotting a unicorn? Anyway, they just dumped a whole load of gameplay clips and info during some PlayStation livestream thing. New movement stuff, mix-and-match weapon crazy talk, and Vault Hunter abilities that might blow your mind. They definitely threw in some nuggets about the loot, trying to fix what Borderlands 3 messed up. Gearbox is all like, “We fixed it, seriously!” Fingers crossed, huh?
Okay, here’s the thing: I dig looter shooters. Destiny 2? My jam. But Borderlands 3? Meh. It didn’t click with me. Now, Borderlands 4—totally vibing with it. It’s on some new planet, and there are cameos, which is kinda cool. People are all hyped because the release date got bumped up like two weeks. Could be because of GTA 6, but that’s just spitballing.
What really hit me was their talk on the loot system overhaul. Generous loot sounds great, right? But Borderlands 3 was giving out rare items like candy on Halloween. Gearbox is saying they listened and gave it a makeover. Supposedly, each piece of gear should feel awesome and make rarity actually matter again. If their promises hold weight, we might actually enjoy hunting for gear this time.
They said Legendaries were dropping too much in Borderlands 3, made ’em less special. They didn’t spill the details on how it’s gonna work in 4, but they’re assuring us these bad boys will feel rare and important. “Magic is back,” they say. Guess we’ll see if it’s true once we’re grinding on some place called Kairos.
Oh, also, they rambled on about new combat and loadouts in BL4. There’s something called Active Skills now with variation on top of variation for Vault Hunters, and each has its own skill tree. Sounds like a lot, but hey, variety is the spice of life, right?
Weapons are getting even weirder with manufacturers doing their thing, adding traits and whatnot. And now you can mix weapon components from different makers—mind bendy, right? In true explosive fashion, there’s a new Ordnance slot to let you go kaboom more often without hoarding ammo like a dragon.
Movement? Off the charts. Slamming, grappling, sliding—it’s like they threw in everything but the kitchen sink for navigating Kairos. Oh, and there’s a Digirunner, basically Destiny 2’s Sparrows, but with guns. Pretty sweet.
So, Gearbox might not be reinventing the wheel, but they’re packing a solid kit of mechanics. I’m kinda stoked to see it all play out and whether they’ve really nailed that loot craze this time.
Mark the date, folks—September 12. Totally guessing here, but there might be hands-on events at Summer Games Fest.
