Hey, so there’s this VR boxing game called Golden Gloves. They’re actually hosting, get this, a real-life tournament next week. Yup, no joke. I mean, sort of a surprise if you ask me, but here we are. The game popped onto the scene in 2022, kinda quietly through early access. Now the developers, Engine Room VR, just dropped the news about the first-ever eGoldenGloves National Championship starting soon. Random side note, it’s happening during the 102nd National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions. Tulsa folks, you’ll be at the Arvest Convention Center on May 16—mark it at 3pm PT in your schedule if that’s your jam. It’ll be all livestreamed on their YouTube. Because, of course.
Okay, so Engine Room VR is calling this a “first-of-its-kind” gig. Big words, right? It’s where VR boxers duke it out on Quest at the same time real-life amateurs are throwing punches. They’ve got more events lined up as well — keeping it vague, but apparently more juicy tidbits are up on their website. Go take a look if curiosity gets the better of you.
And before you think this is just another boxing game thrown into the VR ring, there’s more—Golden Gloves wants to be your go-to for competitive fitness. You’ve got solo and multiplayer options, which is cool. Plus, some fancy anti-cheat and anti-flail tech to make sure nobody’s just button-mashing their way to a win.
Anyway, if you’re eager to feel the virtual adrenaline rush, Golden Gloves is already chilling in early access on both Meta Quest and Steam. But if you’re all about that final polished version, hang tight till the full drop this fall on Quest. Whether or not you’ll enjoy it, well, that’s up to you to figure out.
