Ah, okay, so here’s the thing. Let me try to spill out what I managed to, well, figure out about this whole Control 2 situation. But keep in mind, my thoughts are kind of all over the place, so bear with me, alright?
So, Remedy, these video game wizards are at it again, except this time they’re not throwing around all sorts of cash. Control 2 is on its way, and apparently, they’re like, “Hey, you know what? We don’t need a mountain of money to make something cool.” Or maybe they just didn’t want to spend it, who knows. I read that somewhere, but don’t quote me on it.
Tero Virtala, the big boss over there, told this guy Stephen Totilo, from Game File or something—totally legit source I swear—anyway, Virtala was like, “50 million euros is plenty for us!” Like they’re trying to prove you don’t need to burn cash to make a great game. Imagine trying to cover your electric bill with just freelance checks, it kinda feels like that.
And then there’s this whole bit about them needing to sell like, a couple million copies to break even, which sounds reasonable? Maybe? Then they’re golden if they hit somewhere around four or five million. Seems like he’s got a solid plan, but also, what do I know about game sales? Seriously, not much.
One thing they didn’t say though, like, the exact budget. I mean, they danced around it but didn’t spill the beans, if you get what I’m saying. Classic CEO move, right? Anyway, the game, if churned out with the said budget – fifty million – would be doing well if it rides the waves like some of the recent big-name games, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 or whatever it’s called.
Oh, and wait. Before you jump to conclusions, Control 2 isn’t their next baby. No sir. FBC Firebreak is taking the lead here, and get this, it’s a co-op first-person shooter. Yeah, I didn’t see that coming either. It’s like, they wanted to jump from writing novels to doing stand-up comedy. Risky, but hey, maybe they’re onto something?
So what do you think? Is Remedy onto something with this shoestring budget and genre twist, or are they just out for a stroll with no clear sense of direction? Let me know, because I’m just as curious.
