Hey, so here’s the deal with this game studio, Moon Studios. You know, the geniuses behind “No Rest for the Wicked”? Well, they’re in a bit of a pickle. Apparently, getting bombarded with bad reviews can really tank a game—who would’ve guessed? Not me.
So, Thomas Mahler, their head honcho, hopped on Discord (because where else?) and dropped this bombshell. And yeah, I didn’t find this info myself; a NeoGAF user with far more dedication than me spotted it first. Anyway, Thomas says the studio’s future is as uncertain as my ability to pick a decent restaurant on a Friday night.
He’s basically pleading for positive reviews. Like, seriously asking. He’s got this point—people usually assume there’s some invisible bigwig publisher out there who’ll just throw money at them. No idea why, but it stuck with me.
Mahler’s all like, “If you’re hyped about Wicked and want future updates, but haven’t dropped a glowing review, well, we might just vanish into thin air. Gone. Poof.” I think he described it as not having enough cash flow because of these lousy review bombs. Something about them not making money and having to shut down. Oof.
Also, he admits he wouldn’t be begging if things weren’t this dire. Which is kinda honest, right? I never bother leaving reviews either, unless something either really rocked or ruined my day. But he claims their survival hinges on pushing those review scores back up.
Oh, and this all popped up just a couple of months after they got all “fully independent.” But this Ori series of theirs? Fifteen million units sold. Not too shabby, huh? Life’s full of surprises… like the irony of getting freedom only to risk it all over some stars on a screen. Anyway—wait, what was my point again?
