So, Bungie, right? They’ve got this game coming out called Marathon, and, surprise, some of the art was yoinked from another artist! Apparently, someone noticed—or rather, the artist did—and it was all over Twitter faster than you can say “uh-oh.”
This artist, Fern “4nt1r34l” Hook, blew the whistle with some pretty damning side-by-sides. I mean, they were practically twins. She went on Twitter like, “Hey, not saying Bungie has to put me on payroll, but maybe don’t snag my stuff without a shout-out?” Can you blame her? I’d be miffed too.
So, then Bungie jumps into action. Or sort of… retroactive action? They said, “Oops, that artist isn’t with us anymore.” Like that’s supposed to be comforting? Apparently, the rogue artist dropped those images into a texture sheet for the game. Surely an innocent mistake—except, you know, it wasn’t.
And now Bungie’s all about making amends, saying they’re chatting with Fern, promising to do right by her. They’re going through every nook and cranny of their art assets with a fine-tooth comb—or maybe a digital microscope?—just to ensure no funny business slips through again. Wonder who’s getting overtime in the art department right now.
But, yeah, it’s a mess! An artistic faux pas! Is it just me, or does it feel like groundhog day with these companies? They did say they’re putting stricter checks in place. Here’s hoping that means no more sneaky art theft shenanigans. Thanks for the drama, Bungie.
