Alright, so get this, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine dropped way back when — 2011, I think? — on PS3, Xbox 360, and PCs. You’d think a company like Relic Entertainment, known for real-time strategies, would stick to their guns, but no. They did a curveball with a hack-and-slash shooter game in the grimdark Warhammer 40K universe. And, let’s be honest, most folks didn’t see that coming. It’s like they took a leaf from the Gears of War playbook. Maybe it didn’t totally shake the earth among the sea of gritty shooters, but hey, it got the job done.
Flash forward a bit. Even though Space Marine did okay-ish, it kinda just faded away — like an old mixtape lost in the attic. Relic went off to do who-knows-what, and Space Marine sulked in the shadows. Suddenly, 2024 pops up and bam! Space Marine 2 arrives — not from Relic but from Saber Interactive. And guess what? It was like magic; the first game’s getting a remaster. Yeah, a comeback.
Now, about this remaster — Sega, Relic, and Sneakybox unveiled it during some Warhammer SKULLS event in 2025. It’s got the flashy title “Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition.” Everything’s in there from the OG version — maps, DLC, all the chaos. Plus, they’re even jazzing it up with cross-play so your squad can wreck havoc, 8v8 style, on any device. Fancy, right? But — and here’s the kicker — you PlayStation and Nintendo folks? Gonna have to wait. It launches only on Xbox Series X/S and PC, and yeah, it’s on Game Pass, but it’s $40 if you don’t have that. No upgrades for you, old Space Marine PC owner. Bummer.
Oh, and did I mention it’s dropping in a crazy busy window? Right after Nintendo Switch 2 hits the shelves. Timing, huh? Makes you scratch your head. Maybe it should’ve come out before Space Marine 2, ride that hype wave a bit? I dunno. Hindsight’s 20/20.
Honestly though, why skip PlayStation? The first game showed love to Sony consoles. Why leave them out in the cold now? Sure, decisions are decisions, but maybe they’ll eventually bring it over. Prepping the stage for Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 3, which apparently is already in the stars. Who knows, right?
