Hey, so this popped into my head and I couldn’t shake it. Picture this: Shuhei Yoshida—yeah, the OG from PlayStation—spilled the beans about a VR version of Jumping Flash that was in the works. I mean, it didn’t happen in the end, but still. I can’t remember why this stuck, but there it is.
So, he was chatting with VGC, like, super casually. Yoshida, who, by the way, ran PlayStation Studios from ’08 to ’19, mentioned they toyed with the idea of bringing back old franchises for VR. I mean, how cool would that have been? To think about it, they were considering tossing in the ’95 classic Jumping Flash. It was barely started, though. Just an idea floating around. Didn’t even know who was on the dev team. Kind of a bummer, right?
Now, if you’ve got a taste for nostalgia, one game that did make it was Fantavision 202X. They rebooted the 2000 puzzle gem, and boom, it popped up on PlayStation VR2. Cosmo Machia put it together, and it even came out on Steam. VR was an option, not mandatory. Nice touch, if you ask me.
Yoshida retired in January, but not really. He’s still all about the PlayStation VR2. Yeah, he said he goofed up about the headset in an interview on Kinda Funny but still gushes over games like Synapse and Before Your Eyes. Oh, and seen him hanging at Summer Game Fest with nDreams? They’ve got a new game called Reach coming. Sounds intriguing, right?
