Okay, so I was digging into the whole “Elden Ring Nightreign” release thing, and let me tell you, it’s way twistier than it needs to be. Seriously, I got lost halfway through. But, here’s what I pieced together for anyone trying to get their hands on it:
Alright, so Nightreign is this new roguelike multiplayer thing, a spin on Elden Ring, if you will. But when you can start playing kinda depends on where you’re sitting and what gadget you’re using. Like, if you’re on console or PC, you’re gonna end up starting at different times. And no, there’s no crossplay, so don’t sweat it if you’re out of sync with your buddies.
For console folks (PS5 and Xbox), the magic hour is midnight local time on Friday, May 30. Except if you’re in the Americas where — well, it gets messy. Typical, right?
On PCs, though? It’s a global thing — 12 a.m. CEST on the 30th. Which, I had to Google for time conversion because time zones are basically wizardry to me.
What are you even getting with Nightreign? It’s multiplayer, but not in the way you’d expect. Solo or triple team is your jam, not duo — which seems like a major oversight. Who even decided that? Anyway, you’ve got eight character classes to muck around with, and these are like echoes from the original Elden Ring. The game rolls over three nights with boss fights at the end of each. Oh, and there are some nods to Dark Souls with the bosses too. Maybe they’re hinting at some FromSoft multiverse thing? Who knows.
Price tag is $40, so it’s more like a side quest for Elden Ring addicts than a full course meal. More details are probably in Polygon’s preview if that’s your thing.
And there we go — I think that’s everything — I hope. If not, well, blame the chaos.
