Okay, so here we go. Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Steam page just got tweaked, and guess what? A version of the game is now chilling on Steam servers. Some folks are buzzing with excitement, thinking it might just drop out of nowhere during Summer Game Fest.
Others are clinging to hope that we’ll at least get a release date for this much-anticipated Metroidvania adventure.
The whole thing kicked off about six years ago with this wild journey of a game announcement. Understandably, skepticism climbed up like ivy, given how long this has dragged on. Silksong’s progress, or lack thereof, had people scratching their heads, especially after the promised 2023 release date came and went. Team Cherry, the crew behind this saga, went radio silent, which was not ideal. Until January 2025, when they finally decided to wave a little flag of progress — but not much else. No concrete details. Nada.
Fans were pulling their hair out when the game was missing from both Gamescom 2024 and The Game Awards that year. Oh, the despair! But hold on, there might be something brewing now that they’ve stirred the pot with those Steam updates, right?
Eurogamer had their eagle eyes open, catching Twitter user Wario64 sharing tidbits from SteamDB where one lonely package sprouted some updates after 15 months of silence. A Reddit user, TomNook5058, also backed up the notion that something Silksong-y has indeed found its way to the Steam servers.
Team Cherry hasn’t uttered a word officially, but the rumor mills are turning. Could Silksong get its moment at Summer Game Fest? Will it shadow drop just when the Nintendo Switch 2 graces the shelves on June 5? It’s a big fat mystery still, but a captivating one.
So, we have a giant question mark hovering over whether these Steam whispers mean anything substantial. Still, such updates before a massive gaming event and the launch of a swanky new console? Pretty fishy. And let’s not forget, this cherished game will show up in some shape at Australia’s ACMI come September. If that isn’t quirky enough, it’ll feature in the Game Worlds exhibit, letting people poke around concept art and other cool stuff from about 30 gaming titles.
Mark your calendars, folks. Summer Game Fest is lighting up screens on June 6, at 5 PM ET / 2 PM PT. It’s gonna be showcasing a bunch of heavy hitters like Death Stranding 2 (who saw that coming?), Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Chrono Odyssey, The Outer Worlds 2… Could there be something about Resident Evil 9 too? Rumor has it, but, eh, who knows till it hits?
Whew, that’s a wrap on the dizzying excitement or confusion — take your pick. Keep those fingers crossed and snacks ready. Silksong might just be gearing up for its long-overdue spotlight. Or not. Let’s see!
