So, get this. Saber Interactive — the folks who whipped up “World War Z” back in 2019 — are tossing us a virtual reality bone. Yup, they’re rolling out their very first VR game, smothered in a delightful spread of zombie chaos, hitting Quest and SteamVR headsets on August 12th. Writes itself, right?
Picture this: “World War Z VR” isn’t just some basic retread of the original. Nah, they’ve supposedly built this from scratch for VR, promising to capture that whole intense, nail-biting vibe of the OG game. I mean, that’s what they’re saying, at least.
But here’s the kicker: This one’s shifting gears from the old third-person, multiplayer action we knew to a fresh first-person, solo campaign. You’ll be wandering through some pretty iconic places — think New York, Tokyo, and Marseille. Not sure about you, but my curiosity is kinda piqued here.
And man, they’re not pulling punches. This VR gig lets you face off against, wait for it, over 200 zombies at once. Yeah, I had to do a double-take too. They’re claiming every bit of gameplay got a VR twist, which includes (they say) seven spunky characters and a whole arsenal of gadgets and difficulty levels. Sounds like they’re turning it up to eleven.
And let’s not forget — these zombies? Not your typical brainless lurchers. Nope. Just like in the movie, or if you dug into Max Brooks’ 2006 novel, these guys are feisty. They’ll supposedly adapt to how you play and give you a proper challenge with some kind of special infected. Gulp.
Circle the date, folks: August 12th. Pre-orders are live on the Horizon Store and Steam without a sniff of a discount, but hey, drop twenty bucks, and you snag a fancy ‘Golden Skin Pack’. Because, why not?
Anyway, where was I? Oh right, got caught up in zombie daydreams. Can’t wait to see how this one pans out!
