So, there was this big Xbox shindig over the weekend. Really epic stuff. The Xbox Games Showcase — guess you could call it the big cheese of gaming presentations, right? Anyway, it was filled with trailers and announcements. Oh, and the Xbox Ally handheld got a mention, too. But what really shook things up was this epic finale with The Outer Worlds 2. They even squeezed in some Grounded 2 info right at the end.
Phil Spencer, the big guy at Microsoft Gaming, came on and started riffing about Xbox turning 25 in 2026. He dropped a little hint about Halo — or at least I think he did. He was all like, “Hey, there’s a classic making a comeback,” and my brain fixated on those words, ignoring the Call of Duty talk that followed. Seriously, who cares when you’ve got a potential new battle with Master Chief on the horizon?
Oh, and side note — there was something about Halo being a launch baby with the original Xbox. Like, it’s been this anchor for Xbox forever, starting back in 2001. Can’t get those iconic moments from Halo 2 or 3 out of my head. Those were the days, right? Xbox LIVE was the bomb back then.
But let’s be real, Halo’s had its ups and downs. The 2010s weren’t too kind, and Halo Infinite didn’t quite hit it off, even with all its post-launch fixes. There’s talk of Halo moving to Unreal Engine 5 and them hiring loads of folks for new projects. Like something’s bubbling under the surface.
There was some whispering last year about a Halo: Combat Evolved overhaul — not just another remaster but something juicy, separate from the Anniversary edition. That got people talking. Who knows what Phil was hinting at, but the idea of a new Halo is tantalizing.
If it’s an Infinite sequel, well, I’d be thrilled. But we need a full buffet of content at launch, not just the appetizer. Halo 5 and Infinite released with too little, and that’s a bummer.
Crossing my fingers here. A new Halo on Xbox and PC could be golden. I’ve been in love with the series since I was a kid, so my hopes are sky-high. Microsoft, make it happen. We’re all waiting.
