Whoa, so check this out. Splitgate 2, right? It just dropped on PC and consoles on June 6th, like outta nowhere. And they threw a curveball with a battle royale mode. Didn’t see that coming! People seem to be flocking to it on Steam, but, uh, the reviews are kind of all over the place. Some folks love it, others not so much.
So let’s backtrack a bit. The first Splitgate, you know, the one with all those portals? Reminds you of the summer of 2021 when it caught everyone’s attention. But then just a year later, bam! 1047 Games said, “We’re done here, time for a sequel.” Didn’t think they’d pull the plug so fast, but hey, it got folks talking.
Anywho, the new game hit PC and consoles, and they blared a launch trailer at the Summer Game Fest 2025. The beta had most of us hooked already, but the real shocker? That battle royale they kept under wraps till the last second. Bold move!
Now, this battle royale thing is wild. We’re talking 60 players in 15 teams, each scrambling around a massive place made of biomes. Weird, right? Like Glacier, Inferno, and some asteroid spot called Fracture. There’s this secret fifth biome too, but you gotta survive long enough to see it. Sounds like a race against time and who knows what else.
Aside from the royal rumble, Splitgate 2’s bringing some fresh maps to the table – Simulation Hectic, Sanctum, and more. And don’t get me started on that new water-themed map creator. Oh, and there’s this shotgun, Gravitas. Sounds heavy. Literally.
So here’s the kicker. On SteamDB, Splitgate 2 hit almost 26,000 players right after launch. But wait, let’s remember, the first game hit a lot more, like over 68,000. Maybe because folks were hyped and then, I dunno, they got sidetracked when the sequel was announced. It’s like running full speed and someone yells “Look, a squirrel!”
As for those reviews… they’re mixed. Yep, some players aren’t digging the battle royale vibe or the store prices. But the gameplay? People seem to dig it. It’s got that “je ne sais quoi,” if you know what I mean.
Oh, and I stumbled on some nerdy bits – it’s all powered by Unreal Engine 5. Kinda cool, right? Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah, Splitgate 2. Guess we’ll see how this unfolds. Suspense much?
