Tomb Raider: A Messy Rambly Update
So back in April 2022—yeah, feels like ages now—Crystal Dynamics was like, "Hey, we’re making a new Tomb Raider!" And they’re using Unreal Engine 5, with Amazon jumping on board as the publisher. Sounds fancy, right? But honestly, apart from this one super cool image that shows Lara Croft’s new look (which, side note, I can’t get out of my head for some reason), we’ve had radio silence. Like, what’s even happening with this game?
But wait, don’t think the Tomb Raider universe is just chilling doing nothing. Nope, far from it. Loads of fun stuff has been happening. You could dive into Aspyr’s remastered trilogies or check out Netflix’s animated spin. And trust me, there’s more Lara action coming your way.
Here’s What’s Brewing for Tomb Raider Enthusiasts
Let’s talk Xbox first. If you’re into the whole "Survivor Trilogy" deal that Crystal Dynamics cooked up, good news! “Rise of the Tomb Raider” got temporarily booted from Xbox Game Pass last December. But, drumroll, it’s back on July 1. So you can dive back into all three games. Perfect time to relive Lara’s wild adventures—or maybe I just think so because I need an excuse to replay them.
And Netflix—yeah, they’re bringing us more Lara action. They dropped “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” as this cool animated series. Eight episodes of animated awesome, set right after the 2018 “Shadow of the Tomb Raider.” And they didn’t waste time; Season 2 is already happening. Lara’s gonna be globe-trotting again, looking for these elusive African Orisha masks. No idea when season two hits our screens, but it’s happening!
Oh, and speaking of delays, remember Amazon’s live-action Tomb Raider series? Turns out, things have hit a snag. Sophie Turner’s schedule got all tangled, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge—apparently—hasn’t even wrapped up the script. Guess we’re stuck waiting for more updates.
Comics, Board Games, and More Tomb Raider Stuff
For all you comic book lovers out there—Dark Horse Comics’ old-school Tomb Raider series (we’re talking 1999 to 2005) is making a comeback. They’re re-releasing them! First up, "Tomb Raider Colossal Collection: Volume 1" is set for July 1. Chock-full of 33 old issues. And come November 25, Volume 2 arrives with the rest plus some one-shots. Nerd alert, right?
And if you’re more of a tabletop gamer, well guess what? There’s a new board game, "Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos," which exploded on Kickstarter. Reached its goal like, instantly. Okay, maybe it took 20 minutes. But that’s still nuts! February 2026 shipping is what they’re aiming for. You get to be Lara, exploring the island of Kairos—avoiding traps, making cool weapons, and battling bad guys. Sounds like a wild time.
That’s what’s been buzzing around in the Tomb Raider world! Here’s hoping we get more updates soon on that game, though. I’m dying to see what’s next for Lara.
