So, I stumbled across this talk about Apple and their whole XR thing, and wow, it’s like they’re diving headfirst into a tech rabbit hole. Ming-Chi Kuo, who seems to have the tea on everything Apple, says there’s a bunch of these devices on the way. So, here we go…
First up, apparently, there’s this beefed-up version of the Vision Pro. Suppose it’s got a new chip, the M5 — whatever that means. It’s said to roll out later this year. And then, out of the blue, he drops that they’re working on AR glasses expected in 2028. That’s like, ages away.
Kuo’s been throwing out these timelines like confetti at a parade, all based on some supply chain whispers. The new Vision Pro is set to ship in 2025, loads of them. Well, relatively speaking. We’re talking 150k to 200k units here. They’re sticking with the same specs, just swapping chips, I guess. Because why change a good thing? Or maybe it’s just cost-effective. Who really knows?
Anyway, there’s this planned lighter headset, ‘Vision Air,’ which kind of makes me chuckle. Sounds like a sneaker brand or something, set for 2027. Apparently, it’s gonna weigh a lot less. 40% less than the current one, they say. And it’ll be using plastic lenses or something, to trim down on weight and, presumably, costs. Or maybe it’s just trendy.
Jumping to 2028, we get the ‘Vision Pro 2’ — another big leap, supposedly. It’s this whole redesigned affair with cool chips and lighter feel. Apple seems to be playing the long game, aiming for mainstream, not just the tech nerds.
But here’s the kicker — Kuo’s talking about smart glasses like some kind of fashion-forward thing coming in 2027. He’s got this vision of Apple pumping out millions of them. Think Ray-Ban but techy. No screens, just sounds and gestures. Feels very spy-thriller, doesn’t it?
Picture this: Apple’s XR Glasses in 2028, with all the bells and whistles like color displays and AI. Sounds very sci-fi. Apparently, they paused this other project because it wasn’t cutting it, which makes me wonder how many prototypes are just lying around somewhere.
Apple’s notoriously secretive, though, so who even knows when it’ll all come together? History shows they love their grand reveals, complete with price tags and release dates. As for Kuo, well, he’s reliable but still, take it all with a big ol’ grain of salt.
