Okay, so here’s the deal — Ubisoft’s basically tossed their half-done Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era to these folks at Hooded Horse. Which is kinda wild because, well, it’s Ubisoft. But anyway, the folks at Manor Lords (which sounds like it’s run by medieval landlords or something, right?) are supposed to finish this thing up. But hang on, the guys who started it, Unfrozen, they’re still in the game. Weird patchwork quilt of a project, if you ask me.
Announced last August (2024 — wait, did I get the year mixed up?), they’re thinking it’ll probably land in Early Access sometime next year. Maybe. Sounds like a “cross your fingers” situation.
So, Hooded Horse’s CEO, this guy Tim Bender, says they’re super psyched about working with Ubisoft and Unfrozen. Heroes of Might and Magic apparently hit a lot of us right in the nostalgia. Maybe he’s right about that. Or it could just be marketing talk. Who knows.
Then you’ve got Alain Corre over at Ubisoft saying how excited they are to have Hooded Horse join the party. They think Hooded Horse is gonna help light up the world of Heroes of Might and Magic again. Not sure how new realms can be ‘unexplored’ if they’re, you know, bringing us back to them. But let’s roll with it.
So why did Ubisoft offload this thing? Mystery of the century, right? But here’s a wild thought: maybe it’s ’cause Ubisoft spun off some brand-new company with Tencent, focusing on what they actually care about. And surprise — Heroes of Might and Magic didn’t make the cool kids’ list.
Anyway, there you have it. This whole deal feels like trying to finish a jigsaw with pieces from three different puzzles. But who doesn’t love a bit of chaos?
