Scrolling through game stores now feels like being lost in a sea of platformers. I swear, they’re everywhere. But somehow, every so often, one shiny treasure pops up. That next big hit—something like Shovel Knight or Celeste. How do they do it? By being utterly unique, I guess. That’s how I felt after messing around with Love Eternal at PAX East 2025. Wild, right?
So, there’s these sibling developers who poured their wild imaginations and some heavy vibes into Love Eternal. Their move from Oregon to fire-ravaged LA stirred things up for them. (Can you imagine? The place all burnt up.) They also drew from this crazy anime, Perfect Blue. I’m telling you, the narrative feels it.
You’re Maya. Just chilling at home when—ding!—the phone goes. You answer it, and the world outside is suddenly a mess. Everything’s old, crumbling… talk about a mind trip. Your family? Gone. Vanished. As if this day couldn’t get any stranger.
Alright, picture this. Maya can defy gravity. Yep, you read that right. She flips it and walks on the ceiling. But don’t get too giddy—she can only flip again once she’s landed. And those tricky red stones she snags in the air? They let her flip mid-jump. Nice touch, huh? Makes you think of Celeste or VVVVVV.
It’s hard as nails, naturally. But save points are a thing, thank goodness. So, every time Maya crashes and burns—she’ll be back for more. You gotta give it to these developers—they want us to rack our brains through these nasty traps, all while the plot keeps us guessing. “Escape a castle built of memories” and more poetic stuff. It’s gonna mess with our heads, I’m sure.
Love Eternal? It’s coming up soon—a quick, intense four-hour rollercoaster. Xbox One, Switch, PlayStation (4/5), PC—you name it. Mark your calendars.
